Pre-school
St. Anne's Pre-School is set up to serve the needs of young children by offering them experiences adapted to what is now known about growth needs at these age levels. It nurtures the child in all phases of development--social, emotional, spiritual, and physical--sharing with the parents the responsibility for promoting sound growth in a period where growth is rapid and important. Christian principles are reinforced throughout the program, strengthening self-image and promoting each child as one of God's special people.
One of the main goals of this program is socialization and following the rules and guides set up by the teachers. We strive to make learning fun while the children are learning to become caring, polite and thoughtful individuals. Although our classrooms allow free choices, we also function with some necessary structure.
St. Anne's Pre-School offers two levels of education. Placement into classes is determined by each child's age and when a child plans to attend kindergarten. Listed below are the classes offered and brief information concerning each class:
Explorers Class--Children must be turning 3 by October 15 and must be able to use the bathroom facilities independently. This is an excellent class for children who are experiencing a school setting for the first time. Concepts Stressed: Socialization, listening, group activities, gross and fine motor skills developed through music, art, and physical activities. Introduction of numbers, colors, shapes, and the alphabet.
AM or PM Pre-K Class--Children must be turning 4 by October 15 and must be planning to attend Kindergarten the following year. Children must be able to use the bathroom facilities independently. Concepts Stressed: Socialization, listening skills, participation in group activites, gross motor and fine motor skills developed through music, art and physical activities. Exposure to all the concepts and skills needed for a successful start in kindergarten. Pre-K offers a letter-based curriculum. The children are exposed to a letter of the alphabet each week. Our classroom centers and all activities and daily art projects are based on the letter being presented each week. Children are exposed to many concepts--they are not expected to learn everything. Each child works according to his/her individual ability and maturity level.
